Don't even talk to me.

We're moving on from meh now. This is one round I'm happy to write about a gajillion months later.

If this is your first time checking out Cupcake Wars, check out our introduction page here that links to all other rounds.

Let's get down to it.

VS7 Moustachio Avenue
VS7 Moustachio Avenue

Our contestants and their cakes:

Cakes Avenue All
Cakes Avenue All

Cakes Avenue.

I'm pretty sure you know them. They used to have a branch in Nakheel Centre but I guess it didn't work out, so now they have a stand in Saar Mall. They also have a branch in Riffa. I've had a birthday cake made for me from there and I vaguely remember it was pretty good, and they have a mehyawa croissant.

But we're not here for the mehyawa.

The cupcakes we'll be judging:

Chocolate Cupcake

Carrot Cupcake

Keeping it simple.

Next contestant:

moustachioall
moustachioall

Moustachio Cupcakes.

We found them on Instagram. We're not fans of the whole moustache-in-logos thing, but that's another story. It wasn't going to stop us from trying their cupcakes.

Instagram home-business, you know the deal. The pictures looked pretty yummy so now it's time to test that yumminess out. Yumminess? Yummyness. Yummieness?

Cupcakes being judged:

Triple Lindt Chocolate (How fantastic does that sound?)

Bunny Hugger (Carrot, basically, but we're digging the cuteness.)

IT'S TIME.

Cakes Avenue: Chocolate

Ali Haji: 2/10

Average: 1.8/10

I don't know what to tell you. Frosting was kind of okay to some people.

There was barely any frosting, so it couldn't compensate for the fact that the cake didn't taste like chocolate and was very dry.

Anyway.

Cakes Avenue: Blueberry

The cake was kind of okay without the frosting? Ali Haji didn't hate it.

Sigh.

Average: 6.2/10

Let's get Ali Haji's score reasoning out of the way; he's not into the bitter hint of dark chocolate. The rest of us quite enjoyed the cupcake. It was a little bit dry, and the icing was thick enough to get flaky. Otherwise, the flavor was enjoyable because of the hint of dark chocolate and rich. A pleasant turn of events for this round, definitely.

Moustachio Cupcakes: Bunny Hugger

See? THIS is what we want, guys! A bunch of us don't like carrot cake, but this cupcake still rated well. The frosting was fluffy, and the cake was beautifully moist. I think there was a hint of coconut flakes which was a great addition to the frosting. It even had a pleasant aftertaste.

Ali Haji's comment: "Fucking awesome."

It even rated a teeny bit higher than A Piece of Cake's carrot cupcake. But we did have different judges for that round so.

You guys. That was a good cupcake.

Extra Point Winners:

Presentation (+3): Moustachio Cupcakes was the unanimous winner of all presentation points.

Accessibility (+3): Moustachio Cupcakes was the unanimous winner of all accessibility points, mainly because of their delivery option and online menu.

Menu (+2): Cakes Avenue got most of these points with five of us granting it to them, because they do seem to have a wider range of things on their menu.

Value for Money (+2): Moustachio Cupcakes got most of these points with five of us granting it to them, because one dozen of the classic cupcakes costs BD5.000, meaning it's just over 400 fils per cupcake. What a great deal. I personally gave the vote to Cakes Avenue because I like the option of being able to order a certain number of cupcakes, without being forced to order a dozen. Sometimes I'm just craving a few cupcakes, but that's the curse of the home business, I guess.

Aaaaaaaand the winner is:

R7 Cakes and Moustachio
R7 Cakes and Moustachio

Moustachio Cupcakes!

I'm no statistics expert, but I think this is a landslide.

With such a good experience, I look forward to trying their more funky flavors in the deluxe section.
