The 10 Flavors of Wingman: Ranked!
So, we have a lot of restaurants in Bahrain. A lot.
I'm not complaining. I'm a fatty.
Still, it's not very often that a new restaurant pops up and addresses cravings that no other restaurant addresses.
Can you think of another chicken wings-focused restaurant? With ten flavors? And with the choice to have them bone-in or boneless?
No.
No you can't.
So when we found out about Wingman, which was opened up by the owner of Tony Luke's (and currently operating from Tony Luke's), we were excited. But also skeptical. Because shda3wa, you know?
So we went to a tasting event. Excited to have been invited. Fingers crossed.
And we tried the chicken wings.
Listen, we loved Wingman. That's it. I don't know what else to tell you; the chicken (both boneless and bone-in) was cooked very well and was so saucy.
So we went back to Wingman after the fog of love was cleared, and decided to try each flavor carefully and rank them from our favorite to our least favorite flavors.
Everything's good, but what's the best?
We got into a lot of arguments for this one, because four different people don't always like the same things. Except each other. We like each other. Awww.
Flavor Rankings
10- Hot Buffalo
Ok so. We didn't actually dislike this flavor, but we figured we'd either go with the Mild Buffalo or the Very Hot Buffalo, so the Hot Buffalo was just kind of left in the sidelines. We're sorry, Hot Buffalo, you're actually really good!
9- Asian Zing
This made one of our four members super sad, because he really enjoyed the Asian Zing, and we just... didn't. Something about the Asian flavor and the chicken wings just didn't match for most of us, but we do know some friends who LOVE it, so it definitely makes the cut in other groups. Just not here. Sorry, Asian Zing.
8- Cajun Crunch
This was the one flavor we all agreed was pretty redundant; because there are other flavors that fulfill the same needs and do it better. The Cajun Crunch was more of a seasoning flavor rather than a saucy flavor, so it did come off a bit dry. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't necessary after trying the other saucy babies.
7- Honey BBQ
I'm upset that this didn't make it to the top 5. I love honey BBQ. Love. Especially when you dip it into the ranch sauce? Lawd Jesus.
But, fair is fair, and two people out of four weren't feeling this flavor, because they just have a tendency to dislike the sweet/salty combo. They also mentioned that the chicken was significantly more Honey than BBQ (I disagreed). I'm okay with the honey-to-bbq ratio. You're my baby, Honey BBQ. Always.
6- Garlic Parmesan
Ok guys, let's be honest. What's not to like? It's exactly what it sounds like.
5- Very Hot Buffalo
Exactly as named, it's very hot. Sometimes, it's so hot that you can't enjoy the flavor, but if you're into the spicy kick, this one will punch you in the face. Didn't disappoint. Just watch out for the huge bites of black pepper balls. Is that what they're called?
4- Mild Buffalo
Usually, when you go into a restaurant and order a "mild" flavor, it's not spicy at all. Well, Wingman got it right, because this flavor IS spicy. Yes, it's less spicy than its older siblings, but it still gives you the kick while allowing you to enjoy the rest of the buffalo flavor. Big yes.
3- Jamaican Jerk
I don't know how to describe this flavor. It's funky, okay? With a hint of sweetness, I don't know where from. It's yum yum, a pleasant surprise for everyone who tried it.
2- Lemon Pepper
This is a cutesy flavor for those of us who aren't always trying to live on the spicy edge. Sometimes I just want a lemon pepper wing, okay? It's delicious.
1- Spicy Garlic
This was the undisputed winner at our table. You want spicy chicken wings that give you more than just spicy-ness? This baby right here. This was the winner for spicy-lovers, and the winner for not-necessarily-spicy lovers.
Honorable Mention:
The Tony Luke's flavored fries. Such a perfect side dish to the chicken wings, because they're not just fries, they're seasoned just enough to give them a great kick. We've only tried the Salt & Vinegar fries and the BBQ fries, but they're awesome enough that I have faith you'll enjoy the Sour Cream & Onion fries and the Cajun fries.
How We Order 100 Pieces:
Okay so, not only do Wingman deliver, they have a 100-piece option for only BD 11.5. And you get to pick five flavors. While it makes sense to simply order the top 5 flavors in our ranking, we need to skip number 5 because there's no point in having two buffalo sauce flavors.
So our regular 100 piece order is:
1- Spicy Garlic
2- Lemon Pepper
3- Jamaican Jerk
4- Mild Buffalo
5- Garlic Parmesan
I try to sneak in the Honey BBQ whenever I can, but it's a struggle.
Miss you, Honey BBQ...
